Apple has sold 2 million iPhone 5’s in the first 24 hours that it was made available to pre-order. Estimates are they could sell as many as 170 million units in the coming years. This could be the biggest consumer electronic launch in history!!!!!! More than the TV…PC…VCR….anything!
So what does all this mean? It’s pretty simple: give the consumer what they really want and money becomes no object. Speaking of money. 170 million units at lets just say…..$600 each….is around $85 billion in sales. Not bad for two guys who started Apple Inc. in garage. But even more crazy is the thought of what the future may bring. The technology of the phone is changing so quickly….many futurists predict our cell phone’s will actually be chips implanted on our heads! All you would do is think about calling someone and it would happen. Somewhere the Terminator is smiling.
What a showing for the USA in London! 46 gold medals…more than any other nation….and the most overall medals. It’s the fifth consecutive Games in which the United States has dominated…but there’s a bigger story here: The Ladies. Yes….America’s female athletes were outstanding to say the least….accounting for 66 percent of our gold medals….not to mention 56 percent of US medals overall.
I guess you could say this was a “coming out” party for Title IX….the legal provision that does not allow discrimination based on sex for any activity receiving federal financial assistance. Say what you want….but many of this Olympics most exhilarating moments came during the women’s events. Basketball…judo….you name it…and I along with millions of others were watching a female make this country proud. The Olympic Games this year marked the first time that women outnumbered men on Team USA….269-261…and was the first Olympiad with every country sending at least one woman.
So the United States once again proves it’s world dominance on the biggest stage….but this time it was the ladies leading the way. From the Women’s Olympic basketball team capturing their fifth consecutive gold to gymnastics…swimmers…etc….the ladies stole the spotlight from their male counterparts. Congratulations ladies….you’ve undoubtedly earned it.
One of the perks of being a media member is getting preferential treatment (sometimes) when it comes to certain events. So when the “Bloomdaddy Brothers” told me they wanted to attend a big fireworks show the other night…..I called up my buddy…Sammy “The Bull”….and asked him for a prime location to view the festivities. Sammy you see….is the guy who sets up the fireworks show….so to say he delivered a prime location would be an understatement. Let’s put it this way: We were so close I thought the reverberations from the exploding shells were going to knock my 7 year old out of his chair….which would have been difficult…since he was hiding underneath it! Lol
I probably should have known we were a little too close when the firemen told me to move the vehicle due to falling debris…but it didn’t register. No…it didn’t register until the first shell went off and Braylen (7 years old) jumped higher than LeBron James lifting off for a two-handed slam (I laughed so hard it hurt). Over the course of the next 45 minutes….the boys and I ducked falling embers….debris….and I think a couple of stunned birds knocked out of the air by $15,000 dollars worth of fireworks. At one point I thought I was bleeding out of the ears and had permanently lost my hearing in the right side until my oldest (
Either way….the boys had a great time…..the hundreds in attendance had a good time….and I thanked Sammy “The Bull” for hooking us up. We then got into our white vehicle (which was now black thanks to the soot on the car) …..and drove home for the 1st time in history without any fighting in the backseat…which proves once and for all being “shell shocked” is the best child sedative out there.
Told you so!
That’s all I can say in regards to the special investigation of the
So now what? Death penalty for the football program? Seems harsh to kill a program and punish it’s players and fans when they had nothing to do with this. Jail time for those still alive who covered it up? Absolutely. Child molestation is worse than murder in my eyes because you’re killing the kid internally…leaving him to live a life of despair due to the fact they never get over what was done to them. Death…at least…is an escape from the mental torture that plagues these kids the rest of their lives.
As for Paterno? Take his name off every building…every scholarship…anything and everything he’s ever laid a finger on. This university was literally built by JoePa through his football program….therefore his likeness and name needs to be removed from it so the healing can begin. The winningest coach in college football history allowed young boys to be sexually assaulted right under his watchful eye. Disgraceful. And coming from a father with 3 young boys….all I can say is this: I hope that those who knew something or hid it from authorities receive the justice they deserve…
Everybody knows how much I love baseball….but let me tell you….I’m “baseballed” out!!!!!!!!! This past weekend was the Beast of the East in the
So what did all this mean? Well…it meant my 3 boys played a total of 22 games over 4 days…plus I was responsible for preparing fields, collecting parking, trash pick-up and overseeing 15 games over 3 days in St.C (we didn’t have any games scheduled at our site for Sunday—thank God). I’ve never been so worn out in my entire life! On Monday I arrived home from work at 11:30….put my head on the couch…and didn’t wake up until 4:30. At that time…I had to drive to Shadyside for Braylen Blomquist’s pinto championship game (make that 23 games my boys played over 4 days—we lost 7-6). Now this week….it’s off to
Now you might think this baseball thing is crazy…but I can honestly say….each one of them loves it. This is not a case of dad making them play….especially with the little guy….who I’m sure plays baseball in his sleep. This is a case of a dad’s passion for baseball passed down to 3 great sons who love being on that field. They love the sound of it…the smell of it….the feel of playing a game that’s so hard to master. And even though I’m worn out beyond belief as I write this….I wouldn’t pass it up for the world. I’m tired….I’m broke…and I’m behind on my work….but I also know it’s all gonna end too soon. Not the season…but my boys childhood. The oldest will be driving in a year and the middle one is already thinking girls. That’s why when I watch that little one I cherish every moment because before long…..I’m not gonna have a reason to go to a ballfield….and that thought pains me to the core. Yes….that’s a tear winding it’s way down my cheek
In nearly 20 years of being a media member…I can’t remember a case in which I wholeheartedly believed someone was guilty before all the facts were laid out……but that’s how I feel in regards to Jerry Sandusky. Maybe if there weren’t so many accusers….or so many eyewitnesses….I would give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it’s because I have 3 very young boys and my objectivity is thus compromised. Maybe it’s because I hate anyone who could mistreat a child in any way…shape or form. Take your pick. Either way….I hope this guy rots the rest of his life away.
If you read the grand jury testimony you can see where I’m coming from. You might say people can lie….and I would say you’re exactly right. But 10 people? That’s a stretch. You might say eyewitness testimony is not always factual….and I would say you’re exactly right. But this eyewitness testimony is pretty straightforward and damning. An assistant coach who sees Sandusky naked….gyrating slowly up against a 10-12 year old boys backside in the showerroom late at night accompanied by smacking sounds. A high school wrestling coach who showed up at the Penn State facilities late one night to find Sandusky spooning with a young boy in a secluded back room late at night. Or how about the janitor who told his supervisor he witnessed
I always try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Initially…with
