The NFL Players Association has told its members that the union has tentatively agreed that 40 players will take blood tests for HGH each week during the season....with a positive result drawing a four-game suspension. I don't think the penalty is severe enough.....but again....I guess it's a start.
Using any type of PED in any sport is cheating but lets take a look at an angle to all this that's underplayed and undervalued. Imagine your workplace. Lets say you're a construction worker....coal miner or work in a field that is physically demanding. Imagine if some of your co-workers....in order to be more energetic and productive....started using HGH and other PED's. These are guys who normally wouldn't be able to out work you....but now.....they are outperforming you.
The boss sees this increased productivity and awards them a raise. So now this guy is making more than you....is the apple of the bosses eye...and has raised the bar as to what is expected out of employees at work. You continue to bust your hump but can't compete now. You ask for a raise and are denied because your output doesn't match the top 5 employees....all of whom are on steroids. See where I'm going with this?
The bottom line is....you have been put in a situation where your work ethic and value are getting called into question....and maybe your boss is thinking about replacing you. So you have a decision to make: start taking steroids in order to keep your job and get a raise or be fired. And if you decide to take steroids.....you are sacraficing your longterm health...morals....and dignity because you are a cheater. But it's either that...or lose your career.
This is where most people miss the point on the PED discussion. The pressure users put on others to sacrafice their own health and dignity in order to keep a dream alive and make a living.
