The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a pursuit that ended in a crash early Monday morning in Belmont County.

According to OSHP, troopers tried to stop Timothy Abate, of Bridgeport at around 1:35 a.m. on National Road in Blaine. Troopers said Abate sped up and ended up driving off the left side of the road, hitting a parked trailer.

News 9 reports that the pursuit ended near the Lansing area when Abate hit a telephone police, according to OSHP.

Abate had to cut out of the crashed vehicle and was taken to the hospital.

Charges are pending. OSHP said drugs and alcohol are believed to have played a factor in the crash.
