It’s still not clear how much it will cost to make repairs to the Wheeling suspension bridge.

A state bridge engineer says the span likely won't reopen for at least three weeks.

The division of highways closed the historic bridge Saturday after a cable on top of the span snapped on the downtown Wheeling side. The cable helps to keep the bridge from swaying.

DOH Bridge Engineer Dave Sada says that rust and corrosion caused the cable to snap. The problem was discovered during a routine inspection of the 164-year-old bridge.
