West Virginia drivers have to dig a little deeper into their wallets since area gas prices increased over eight cents to $3.51 this week.

According to the Fuel Gauge, today’s national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.36.

This price is a nickel more than one week ago but it remains seven cents cheaper than the average price one year ago.

Prices have risen mostly because of higher oil prices from positive economic news and recent regional refinery issues.

In Wheeling, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded will cost you around $3.51, in Weirton it’s a bit cheaper at $3.49 per gallon.
