Allen Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer for the Trump Organization, has been sentenced to five months in jail for perjury. Weisselberg, 76, admitted to lying under oath about the size of Donald Trump's Manhattan penthouse during a civil fraud case against the former president.
Weisselberg testified that he had little knowledge of how Trump's penthouse came to be valued on financial statements at nearly three times its actual size. However, he later admitted to lying about this during his testimony. The apartment, which is less than 11,000 square feet, was listed on Trump's financial statements as 30,000 square feet.
The former CFO was taken into custody immediately after his sentencing. This is Weisselberg's second time behind bars. He previously served 100 days last year for tax evasion on $1.7 million in company perks, including a rent-free Manhattan apartment and luxury cars.
Despite the charges and sentencing, Weisselberg has remained loyal to Trump. The Trump family employed Weisselberg for nearly 50 years and gave him a $2 million severance deal when he retired due to the tax charges. The Trump Organization continues to pay his legal bills.
Weisselberg's plea agreement does not require him to testify at Trump's upcoming hush money criminal trial, which is set to start with jury selection on Monday. Trump is accused of falsifying his company's records to cover up payments during his 2016 campaign to bury stories of marital infidelity. Trump has pleaded not guilty and denies any wrongdoing.
